Bass baritone Pieter Hendriks
studied with Herman Woltman and Wout Oosterkamp at the
Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 1997 he was prize winner in
the Erna Spoorenberg Vocalisten Presentatie for oratorium.
The concert repertoire of Pieter Hendriks reflects
his great diversity. He has sung prominent works of Bach, Beethoven,
Händel, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn and Rossini as well as repertoire
by Schönberg, Szymanowski, Orff, Zemlinsky, Martin, Bernstein,
Britten and Honegger. Hendriks has collaborated with well-known
ensembles such as Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw, Residentie Orkest,
Radio Kamer Filharmonie, Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, Noord Nederlands
Orkest and Combattimento Consort Amsterdam and has performed as
soloist under the baton of Jaap van Zweden, Frans Brüggen,
Mariss Janssons, Ed Spanjaard, Jan Willem de Vriend, William Christie,
Daan Admiraal and Christian Zacharias.
In addition Pieter Hendriks regularly performs in operas.
With the Nederlandse Opera he sung the role of Monnik in
the world première of ‘Tea’ by Tan Dun (a production
that was both in Amsterdam and Tokyo) and with the Nationale Reisopera
he sung the roles of Kilian in Von Weber’s ‘Der Freischütz’
and Henry in Micha Hamel’s ‘Snow White’. Additional
roles have included Junge Heer in ‘Der Protoganist’
(Weill), Ferryman in ‘Curlew River’ (Britten) and the
title roles in ‘Falstaff’ (Salieri) and ‘Nixon
in China’ (Adams). Hendriks was bass soloist in Barokopera
Amsterdam’s ‘King Arthur’ (Purcell) with performances
in the Netherlands and neighboring countries. In a 2005 Opera Trionfo
production he received much acclaim for his interpretation of the
role of Mamma Agata in ‘Viva la Mamma’ by Donizetti.
In 2008 he performed in the Grachtenfestival production of ‘Der
Vampyr’ by Marschner.
Pieter Hendriks is a regular guest artist with Opera
Nijetrijne in Friesland. In August 2009 he sung the role of
Barone in Cimarosa’s ‘Il Pittore Parigino’ followed
by in 2010 the role of Graaf in a Dutch adaption of Mozart's 'Le
nozze di Figaro'.
In 2010 Hendriks performed the role of Silvano in Verdi’s
'Un Ballo in Maschera' with the Nationale
Reisopera.
Pieter Hendriks has participated in diverse cd en dvd recordings.
He sung the roles of Papageno in the Dutch version of Mozart’s
‘Die Zauberflöte’, Monnik in Tan Dun’s ‘Tea’
and Vis in ‘Jona, de neezegger’ written by Willem Breuker,
as well as the bass arias in Bach’s ‘Matthew Passion’
in the Dutch translation by Jan Rot.
Since 2002 he has been a member of the renowned Groot Omroepkoor
in Hilversum, the Netherlands.
